My name is Pete Villasmil, a political science and journalism double major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with politics. Ever since I emigrated from Venezuela, I have been completely immersed in the intricate nature of the United States’ political scene and the interplay between the government and the media. The experiences I’ve had in the country of my birth has given me a unique perspective on the interconnectivity of world events and novel approaches to problem solving that could benefit others. Having one foot firmly in each culture, I hope to provide diverse and nuanced analysis of the issues of the day. Further, I hope my work can challenge others to rethink some of their preconceptions and existing positions on policy.
I also occasionally write movie reviews. Ever since I was young, I have had a passion for film. I love discussing the intricacies and artistry that great movies can have. I also love expressing my frustrations with a film’s shortcomings. Simply put, I love talking about cinema. I hope with this excitement towards film, along with my knack for writing, I can deliver interesting perspectives and commentary on the films I feature. I aim to deliver informative reviews that effectively highlight the positives and negatives of these movies.
In addition, I hope to also document my progress and growth as a writer.
